The date of the NATO secretary general's visit to Moscow has been moved from November 5 to November 3 because of technical reasons, Russia's envoy to NATO said on Monday.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen will arrive in the Russian capital late on November 2, Dmitry Rogozin said.

On Wednesday, the NATO top official will hold talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he said.

"We are expecting to receive information on the new NATO strategy drawn up by the secretary general," Rogozin said, adding that air defense will also be a focus of discussion.

Rasmussen's visit will take place ahead of the Russia-NATO summit due on November 20 in Lisbon. Medvedev has said he will take part in the top-level talks for the first time since the August 2008 war between Russia and Georgia over South Ossetia soured Russia's relations with the alliance.

The NATO secretary general is also expected to discuss with the Russian authorities cooperation on Afghanistan, such as the transit of NATO military cargo to the war-torn country via Russia, possible supplies of Russian Mi-17 Hip transport helicopters to Afghanistan, and joint drug-fighting efforts.
