China's latest massive traffic jam continued on Monday, with cars stacked up for up to 18 miles (29 kilometers) on a highway north of Beijing, Chinese state media reported.

The main reason traffic has increased on the partially four-lane highway is the opening of coal mines in northwest China.

Traffic officials have vowed to tackle the jams, and are planning to build an outer ring road, stretching around the city, to avoid congesting the central districts.
