Russia and the United States should promote cooperation between NGOs in the two counties, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration said after a Russian-US presidential commission meeting in the Russian town of Vladimir on Thursday.

Russia and the United States should promote cooperation between NGOs in the two counties, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration said after a Russian-US presidential commission meeting in the Russian town of Vladimir on Thursday.

"Now we need to work on our general approach: swapping experiences and promoting cooperation between Russian and U.S. NGOs," Surkov said.

He said the Russian and U.S. officials at the meeting had understood each other very well.

"Both the issue of prisoners' conditions and the issue of immigration are central in our societies. That's why all the reports and comments made followed the same tune. We decided to continue discussing these issues at the next meeting in the United States," he said.

The Russian-US Presidential Commission was set up in 2009 during U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Moscow. The commission's first meeting was in Washington in January 2010.
