Legendary Russian opera singer Irina Arkhipova has been hospitalized in Moscow with heart problems, a source at the Botkin Hospital said.
"On January 19, she was admitted to the hospital's cardiac intensive care unit," the source said. "She is in stable condition; however, she will spend several days in the intensive care unit."
Arkhipova's husband, heldentenor Vladislav Piyavko, however, told RIA Novosti that his wife was at home and feeling well.
Arkhipova, 85, a mezzo-soprano/contralto performed abroad with the Russian Bolshoi Theater and as a guest at foreign halls. Her repertoire includes Amneris in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, Marina in Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Marfa in Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina, Lyubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride, Carmen in Georges Bizet's Carmen and many others.
