A man in the central Russian republic of Chuvashia has been sentenced to a year's community work for killing and then eating a dog.
Prosecutors said that 27-year-old Yevgeny Varsonofiev killed and ate the Collie dog after stealing it from its owners. He was charged with cruelty to animals.
Varsonofiev was also fined 10,000 rubles ($340).
Two years ago, a couple in the central Ukrainian city of Poltava who ate at least 15 cats were jailed for four months apiece.
