Several thousand private houses and a few five-story buildings were left on Sunday without heating in the city of Novosibirsk in Russia's west Siberia due to a damaged gas pipeline.
Some of the affected houses, however, have stove heating systems.
Temperatures in Novosibirsk are minus 20 degrees Celsius now and are about to fall to minus 35 tomorrow.
"During excavation work, a gas pipeline 50 centimeters in diameter was damaged. About 3,300 private houses were left without gas," emergencies services said.
Authorities said the pipeline restoration work would last until Monday night.
