More than 200 residents of the Russian city of Tver are living in temporary accommodation after a film crew blew out the windows of their apartments, the city press office said on Saturday.

A special effect for the filming of the television series Nebo v Ogne (Sky in Flames) in Tver knocked out 75 windows in four buildings at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The city administration said 214 people, including 61 children, lived in the affected apartments, but no one was hurt.

"During the filming a pyrotechnic explosion was carried out. For unknown reasons, the power of the explosion was so great that four nearby houses were seriously damaged," the city administration said in a statement.

It added that work to repair the broken windows would be carried out as a priority.

The police have been ordered to swiftly ascertain the cause of the incident, and told to suspend the filming until the Star Media company can guarantee the safety of all Tver residents.
