A 22-year-old Russian believed to have been involved in a drunken high-speed car race in Switzerland has been taken into custody, national media said on Thursday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that Ziya Babayev, the son of a successful Russian businessman, had been involved in the incident in question, which left a Swiss pensioner with severe head injuries.

"According to a reliable source, young B., who drove a Lamborghini and caused the crash in Genthod, spent last night in custody," the online edition of the 20 Minuten daily said.

Police and prosecutors declined to comment on the report. Babayev's lawyer was not immediately available for a comment.

The race saw four Russians race a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, a Mercedes and a Porsche at over 220 km an hour (about 150 miles an hour) on a highway by Lake Geneva.

Investigators have not disclosed the names of the three other suspects, but media reports said two of the young racers were sons of Russian tycoon Telman Ismailov, who opened an ultra luxury hotel on Turkey's Mediterranean this summer.
