MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - The daughter of an Iranian presidential adviser for cultural and media affairs has applied for asylum in Germany, the Persian-language Peykeiran website reported on Tuesday.
Narges Kalhor took part in the International Human Rights Film Festival in the German city of Nuremberg, presenting her film The Rake, which condemns the use of torture in Iranian prisons and the totalitarianism of Iran's authorities, the website said.
Kalhor was quoted by Peykeiran as saying that "although the film was shot a year ago, it represents today's realities," which are "hardly cheerful."
Nuremberg Human Rights Film Festival officials said Narges Kalhor informed festival organizers she had submitted her asylum application to authorities in the southern German city.
Her father, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's adviser on cultural and media affairs Mahdi Kalhor, has been seen as a close ally of the president in the last decade.
Earlier on Tuesday, media reports said Iran's authorities started a legal prosecution against an opposition leader, Mehdi Karoubi, over his allegations that some opposition supporters were raped in jail.
Iran put several hundreds of opposition leading moderates on trial after the disputed presidential elections in June, which sparked huge opposition protests. Karoubi finished fourth in the presidential race.
Some 27 people reportedly died in the riots. About 4,000 people were detained and about 300 of them are still behind bars.
According to media reports, three protesters were sentenced to death in October.
