SOCHI, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - President Dmitry Medvedev met on Friday with the leader of the south Russian republic of Ingushetia, who has returned to work after surviving an assassination attempt.

Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov underwent a series of operations in Moscow after sustaining head and internal injuries when a car bomb exploded as his motorcade passed on June 22. The province has seen a surge in militant violence in recent months.

Medvedev told Yevkurov: "Unfortunately, there are still a lot of problems, of a terrorist nature. Terrorists have intensified their activity over the summer, and they must be caught and destroyed."

Last week Ingushetia suffered its worst attack in several years, when a suicide bomber drove a truck into a police headquarters early in the city of Nazran, killing at least 24 people.

Medvedev also wished the Ingush president success in solving local economic problems.

Yevkurov returned to work on Saturday, dismissing several officials, including a deputy prime minister. He pledged "merciless" efforts to deal with terrorism in the republic.
