The first human case of A/H1N1 influenza has been confirmed in China's capital, bringing the number of human swine flu cases in mainland China to three, the news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

BEIJING, May 17 (RIA Novosti) - The first human case of A/H1N1 influenza has been confirmed in China's capital, bringing the number of human swine flu cases in mainland China to three, the news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

An 18-year-old female student who studies at a university in the New York state was diagnosed with the swine flu after arriving in Beijing from the United States, Xinhua said, referring to health officials.

The student is currently in a stable condition and is receiving treatment, the agency said.

The World Health Organization on Saturday confirmed 8,451 human cases of A/H1N1 influenza in 36 countries, with 72 deaths.

Sixty six people have died in Mexico, which has reported 2,895 laboratory confirmed human cases of swine flu. The United States has reported 4,714 cases with four fatalities. One person has died in Canada, which has reported 496 cases, and Costa Rica has had one fatality and nine confirmed cases.

The WHO has said there is no risk of infection from the consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products.

Gennady Onishchenko, the head of Russia's consumer rights regulator Rospotrebnadzor, said Friday that H1N1 is not yet a pandemic strain. "It is still weak," he said.
