MOSCOW, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - Criminal cases were launched against more than 1,300 Russian police officers in 2008, the head of the Interior Ministry's internal security department said on Wednesday.
"Last year, the number of requests to home security departments rose to 27,000," Yury Draguntsov said. "As a result, over 1,500 officers were fired, and criminal cases were launched against 1,300."
Minor disciplinary action was taken against another 11,000 officers, he added. The total number of registered crimes committed by police officers fell by 10% in 2008.
