MOSCOW, January 21 (RIA Novosti) - The driver of a Mercedes who beat a pedestrian to death for blocking his way at a crosswalk had his appeal against a seven-year prison sentence rejected by a Moscow court on Wednesday.

The Moscow City Court upheld its guilty verdict against Anatoly Siluyanov for killing Alexander Lavrushin, court spokeswoman Anna Usachyova said.

The incident, which outraged many Russians, happened in June 2008 when a group of students was crossing a street in southern Moscow. Although they started to cross on a walk signal, they still had some distance to go when the traffic light turned from red to yellow.

Siluyanov became frustrated that Lavrushin was preventing him from taking off as soon as traffic turned green and got out of his car to confront the student. The driver, who had just come from his Greco-Roman wrestling training and was uptight and in a hurry, hit the 17-year-old twice before driving away.

Lavrushin died of the injuries at the scene.
