Chinese pensioner fails university entrance exam for 4th time

MOSCOW, July 3 (RIA Novosti) - A 79-year-old man from eastern China's Jiangsu province has failed his university entrance exam for the fourth time, the Xinhua news agency said on Thursday.

Wang Xia has been trying to get a diploma in medicine ever since he left school in 1949. However, he had to wait until 2001 to make his first attempt to enroll at a university.

At the age of 72, he was allowed as an exception to attend lectures at the Nanjing medical university in 2002. As an unofficial student, Wang passed his exams in all 49 subject areas over four years, but never received a diploma.

He was also unsuccessful on his third attempt in 2007.

After failing entrance exams this year, the stubborn Wang said he would apply again next year.
