NEW YORK, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - RIA Novosti will hold a fund-raising event on June 10 in New York for the news agency's Children in Need program for sick Russian children, as part of Day of Russia celebrations.

"We are glad to join this excellent charity project as we believe that on the Day of Russia we should not only congratulate each other with this holiday but also do good deeds," said the organizer Day of Russia in New York, Yuri Smirnov.

The Children in Need program is co-organized by Russia's envoy to the United Nations and the Russian-U.S. cultural center Heritage.

The fundraising event will include a concert and a party to be attended by Russian and U.S. celebrities, businessmen and politicians.

The Russian Children in Need event will be taking place in the U.S. for the third time. Last year, the event coincided with the 200th anniversary of Russian-U.S. bilateral relations.

The Day of Russia marks the declaration by the Soviet Union's Congress of Russia's sovereignty over its territory, allowing the republic to pass laws superseding Soviet laws as the union collapsed.
