MOSCOW, March 6 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow chefs have made a huge pancake in the form of a map of the planet on the fourth day of Russia's Maslenitsa, or 'Pancake Week' celebrations.

Each of the 'countries' on the 2 by 1.8 meter (6.5 by 6 foot) pancake map was baked separately and colored with food dye. Russia was red, the U.S. - yellow, France - violet, and the U.K. - light green.

The cooks used a total of 20 kilograms (40 lbs) of dough to make the unusual delicacy.

A Pancake Week parade, staged in central Moscow to celebrate Maslenitsa, was accompanied by performances from singers, dancers and musicians.

Maslenitsa is a Russian religious and folk holiday celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, the seventh week before Easter.

As Great Lent forbids the eating of meat and dairy products, as well as singing, dancing and other forms of merry-making, Maslenitsa is a chance for believers to treat themselves to all the things prohibited during Lent.
