BEIRUT, January 11 (RIA Novosti) - Lebanon's presidential election set for January 12 has been moved to January 21 to give the visiting Arab League chief more time to mediate between political factions, parliament announced on Friday.

Amr Moussa arrived in Lebanon on Wednesday to offer a plan to tackle a protracted political crisis in the country, whose parliament has been unable to elect a president since November 23 over disputes between the ruling majority and the Hizbollah-led opposition.

Moussa has so failed to persuade the pro-Western parliamentary majority and the pro-Syrian opposition to agree to a plan adopted by the 22-nation Arab League, which proposed a speedy presidential election, the formation of a national unity government and new legislation regulating elections and governmental appointments.

Both camps agree that army General Michel Suleiman should succeed ex-President Emile Lahoud to break the political impasse, but they cannot agree on the formation of a new government.
