Russia's customs officers seize almost a ton of heroin in 2007

MOSCOW, January 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russian customs officers seized a total of 895 kilograms of heroin in 2007, the Federal Customs Service said on Tuesday.

In a statement released January 1, the Federal Customs Service summed up the results of its operations in 2007.

Overall, Russia's customs seized over 1,700 kilos of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, including more than 130 kilos of cocaine and 50 kilos of hashish over the past year, the statement said.

Customs officers also cut short attempts to illegally transport more than 17 metric tons of drug precursors across Russia's border in 2007, the statement said.
