ISLAMABAD, November 21 (RIA Novosti) - Pervez Musharraf is expected to resign as army chief and be sworn as a civilian president in the next few days, Palestinian Attorney General Malik Qayyum said on Wednesday.

"If the Supreme Court lifts the stay order against his re-election, then President Musharraf is likely to take the oath as a civilian president by Saturday or Sunday," Qayyum said.

Although Musharraf, who seized power in a military coup in 1999, is known to have won the country's October 6 presidential elections, the results will only be officially announced after the Supreme Court clears the final legal obstacles blocking Musharraf's continued presidential rule on Thursday.

President Musharraf announced a state of emergency in Pakistan on November 3, citing a growing rise in militant activity.

Parliamentary elections are due in Pakistan on January 8.
