MOSCOW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Police in the Ramenskoye district, southeast of Moscow, have discovered and burned 40 tons of cannabis growing wild in fields, a local police spokesman said Friday.
He said police previously destroyed some 50,000 tons of the narcotic plant in the region in the course of a Poppy 2007 operation July 17 and 18.
The source said the annual operation was aimed at destroying illegal fields of poppies, cannabis and other narcotic plants, blocking drug trafficking channels and exposing drug dealers.
