LONDON, July 3 (RIA Novosti) - Britain's prime minister announced Tuesday the creation of a new government body to protect the nation from potential terrorist attacks.
Gordon Brown, who is to head the National Security Council that is believed to comprise several key ministers, told parliament the council would regularly develop and update a national security strategy to counter the terrorist threat.
On June 29 in central London, two Mercedes cars packed with fuel, gas cylinders and nails, were discovered parked in the city before they could explode. And on June 30, a fuel-filled jeep crashed into the entrance of Glasgow Airport's main passenger terminal, bursting into flames on impact.
Following the attacks, Britain raised its terror alert to the highest, 'critical' level. In a televised address, Brown who took over from Tony Blair last Wednesday has urged the nation to be vigilant.
