WASHINGTON, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - The Atlantis space shuttle will not be able to use its first landing opportunity on Friday at 6.18 p.m. GMT due to bad weather over Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The shuttle, now on its 28th mission, will be returning from the International Space Station, where it has delivered a second starboard truss segment and a set of solar arrays. Its launch was delayed for almost two months due to hailstorm damage.

An officer at Houston's mission control said that if thunderstorms over Florida do not subside shortly, the flight controllers may divert the shuttle to Edwards Air Force Base, California.

Seven landing windows - three for the Kennedy Space Center and four for Edwards - will be left on Friday and Saturday.

Earlier, mission control said the crew has enough resources to stay safely in orbit until Sunday.
