MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow hopes that the agreement between the Ukrainian political leaders on holding early parliamentary elections will help ease tension in the country, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said Sunday.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko announced Sunday that early parliamentary elections in the country would be held September 30. The announcement came after hours of tense talks between Yushchenko and his rival, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, aimed at ending a long-running political crisis in the country.

"We hope that the agreements that have been reached will help solve the political crisis in the country within the constitutional framework," Kamynin said.

On April 2, pro-Western leader Yushchenko issued a decree to dissolve the 450-seat Supreme Rada and hold early elections. But parliament and ministers, dominated by pro-Russian Prime Minister Yanukovych's supporters, refused to obey the order and referred it to the Constitutional Court.

The power struggle between the two rival politicians intensified Thursday when Yushchenko dismissed the country's top prosecutor loyal to Yanukovych and the chief prosecutor resisted the president's decree.
