BERLIN, May 11 (RIA Novosti) - Nicolas Sarkozy will make his first foreign trip as France's new president to Germany, a spokesman for the German government's information department said Friday.

Sarkozy, who was elected in the second round of French presidential elections May 6, will arrive for a working lunch with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany on the day of his inauguration May 16.

"This brief 'introductory' visit by the French president should be considered a sign of a continuation of France's friendly policy towards Germany," the source said.

Merkel, who also made her first foreign visit as German chancellor to France, was among the first foreign leaders to congratulate Sarkozy on his election.

Apart from European affairs and bilateral problems, Merkel and Sarkozy will also discuss EU-Russia relations, which were recently marred over U.S. plans to deploy missile defenses in the Czech Republic and Moscow's negative reaction, the source said.

On May 17, the German leader will arrive in the Volga town of Samara, in southeastern Russia, for a two-day EU-Russia summit.
