TEHRAN, April 19 (RIA Novosti) - An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has denied U.S. statements alleging the discovery of Iranian-made weapons in Afghanistan, labeling them as "a repeated and dubious scenario," Thursday.

Mohammad Ali Hosseini said the U.S. allegations were rooted in U.S. weakness and inability to control the situation in Afghanistan. "[Afghan] government officials and the state have always confirmed and welcomed Iran's constructive role and transparent attitude in efforts to ensure stability, welfare and security in Afghanistan," the Iranian official said.

Hosseini said that Tehran was for expanding cooperation with "the friendly and brotherly government of Afghanistan" on the basis of mutual interests.

Earlier this week U.S. military officials said that last month, U.S. forces had intercepted Iranian-made weapons intended for Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. "There have been increasing concerns raised over Iran's behavior in Afghanistan - involvement that goes beyond the cultural, commercial and educational, and starts going into reports of involvement in political areas or reports of contacts and arms supply to the Taliban," Richard Boucher, assistant U.S. Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, said Wednesday.
