Iran is prepared for talks on its nuclear program without preconditions, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Sunday.
TEHRAN, March 25 (RIA Novosti) - Iran is prepared for talks on its nuclear program without preconditions, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Sunday.

The UN Security Council voted unanimously Saturday to impose new sanctions against the Islamic Republic for its refusal to halt uranium enrichment.

Tehran is prepared to remove all uncertainties related to its nuclear file, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

UN Security Council Resolution 1747 toughening sanctions against the Islamic Republic is illegitimate and unacceptable, the document said.

The Iranian nuclear program is meant for civilian purposes only and all of Iran's nuclear facilities are under control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the document said.

"By adopting such resolutions, the UN Security Council undermines the authority of the UN Charter and international legislation. The Security Council's actions to force Iran to give up its legitimate and inalienable rights are dictated by pressure from some world powers at the UN Security Council," Hosseini said.

Since Iran resumed uranium enrichment in January 2006, the country has been the focus of international concerns, as some Western countries, particularly the United States, suspect Tehran is pursuing a covert weapons program. But Tehran has consistently claimed it needs nuclear power for civilian power generation and is full entitled to its own nuclear program.

The new UN Security Council resolution was passed following Tehran's refusal to comply with the previous resolution adopted December 23, 2006.

The new resolution freezes financial accounts abroad of 13 companies and 15 individuals involved in uranium enrichment and missile development projects, imposes visa restrictions and bans arms exports from Iran. It also threatens new sanctions, if Iran does not comply with it within 60 days, and urges the Islamic Republic to return to negotiations.
