Over 40 people have died in a storm that struck Western Europe on Thursday, overturning vehicles, ripping up trees and toppling walls, and has steadily moved east.
Anatoly Belov, an expert at the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere, and Radio Waves Propagation (IZMIRAN) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said: "Atmospheric pressure is continuing to fall. Pressure has dropped by four millimeters of mercury [mm Hg] over the last three hours."
Normal atmospheric pressure is 760 mm Hg. The weather expert said atmospheric pressure is now between 709 mm Hg and 716 mm Hg in different districts of Moscow and the Moscow Region, and is expected to drop further. This may occur gradually - about one mm Hg per hour - or there may be a much more rapid fall in pressure, he said.
