MOSCOW, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - Two people have been killed in a helicopter crash in the Moscow region, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Saturday.
"At 1:50 p.m. local time [10:50 a.m.], a two-seat foreign-made private helicopter fell near the village of Gorodishchi in the Voskresensky district [about 100 km to the east of Moscow]. Two men aboard it were killed," the ministry said.
The ministry said it is not as yet clear what could have caused the crash.
According to sources at the Emergency Situations Ministry Moscow Region Directorate, the helicopter was an autogyro, a type of rotary wing aircraft supported in flight by lift provided by a rotor.
