The fire at the inpatient clinic in the city of Taiga broke out Saturday night and spread over 600 square meters of the building's floor space and 1,200 square meters of the roof. The fire was extinguished at 01:23 a.m. Moscow time (22:23 p.m. GMT), the center said.
According to the emergencies center, the clinic reported about the fire with a considerable delay.
"It has become known that the fire alarm on the building's second floor went off at 20:15 p.m. Moscow time (17:15 p.m. GMT) December 9. However, the clinic's personnel reported about the fire only in 1.5 hours after ignition. During all this time, people who were inside the building tried to put out the fire on their own," the center said.
All the nine persons died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Most of them have been identified while 16 persons have been hospitalized with injuries and 197 patients of the clinic have been sent to Kemerovo, the emergencies center said.
