U.S. military chief goes to Russia on official visit

MOSCOW, October 29 (RIA Novosti) - A top U.S. general is arriving in Russia October 29 on an official visit to hold meetings with the Russian command and tour facilities, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry's press office said Sunday.

Vyacheslav Sedov said General Peter Pace, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, would hold a number of meetings with the command of the Russian Armed Forces during the four-day trip and visit a combat training center of the 76th airborne division based in the city of Pskov in north-western Russia.

"On Monday Pace will meet in Moscow with Yuri Baluyevsky, chief of the General Staff of Russia's Armed Forces. During the meeting, the parties will discuss the development of relations in the military sphere, and also the situation in crisis regions of the world," Sedov said.

Pace will complete his visit November 1 in St. Petersburg where he will meet with the command of the Leningrad military district. Pace will also hold meetings with the heads of Russia's Foreign Ministry, Security Council and Federation Council, Sedov said.
