Police seize more than 3.5 kg of drugs in Russia's Siberia

MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Police have seized more than 3.5 kg. of drugs in Russia's Western Siberia, the local law-enforcement bodies said over the phone Sunday.

The police detained a citizen of Tajikistan in the city of Surgut in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District and seized more than 3.5 kg. of heroin from him, the law-enforcement bodies said.

"The police are investigating the detainee's involvement in organized criminal groups and tracking down the drug route," the law-enforcement bodies said.

In the past twenty-four hours, the police have seized large batches of drugs in 12 regions of Russia, including more than 13 kg. of poppy straw and more than 3.5 kg. of heroin, the Russian Interior Ministry said.
