TBILISI, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's minister for conflict resolution on Tuesday urged to revise a 1992 agreement with Russia on principles of settling the conflict with the breakaway Georgian province of South Ossetia.

Merab Antadze said the deal, under which Georgia, Russia and the Russian republic of North Ossetia had each deployed a 500-men-strong peacekeeping battalion in the conflict zone, "requires urgent revision and renewal."

He said the issue would be raised at a meeting of Georgian, Ossetian and Russian officials in Moscow on August 17.

South Ossetia declared its independence from Georgia following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, but the current Georgian leadership is determined to bring the separatist region back into the fold.
