MOSCOW, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will launch shipments of humanitarian aid to war-torn Lebanon on Thursday, the agency managing state material reserves said Tuesday.

After almost a month of violence in southern Lebanon, Israel's military offensive has claimed the lives of around 900 Lebanese civilians and displaced about a quarter of the country's population, while Islamic militant group Hizbollah has killed more than 90 Israelis, mostly soldiers.

On August 10, Russia will "launch supplies of material goods from the state reserve to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Lebanon suffering in the war, in accordance with the government's resolution," the Federal Agency for State Reserves said.

Since Israel has not guaranteed safe deliveries by land, the goods, which include grain, canned dairy and meat products, blankets, tents, eating utensils, and power-generating devices, will be loaded onto Emergency Situations Ministry vehicles and transported to Cyprus by air, before being taken to Lebanon by sea, the agency said.
