Russia's Putin says happy with results of G8 summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday he was satisfied with the results of the Group of Eight summit near St. Petersburg and added that G8 leaders had adopted all planned documents with very few changes.
STRELNA (near St. Petersburg), July 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday he was satisfied with the results of the Group of Eight summit near St. Petersburg and added that G8 leaders had adopted all planned documents with very few changes.

"The Russian delegation is happy with the results of the summit," he told a news conference at the summit venue on the second day of the G8 forum. "All the set goals have been achieved. All the documents that we planned to sign have been adopted with virtually no changes."

Russia's debut G8 summit in St. Petersburg adopted 12 documents, including on the Middle East, Global Energy Security, Education for Innovative Societies in the 21st century, Fight against Infectious Diseases, Trade, Update on Africa, Combating IPR Piracy and Counterfeiting, and Fighting High Level Corruption.

The G8 leaders also adopted a G8 Summit Declaration on Counter-Terrorism and a G8 Summit Declaration on Strengthening the UN's Counter-Terrorism Program.

The G8 leaders also adopted a G8 Declaration on Cooperation and Future Action in Stabilization and Reconstruction and a Statement on Non-Proliferation.
