IZHEVSK, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday he was prepared to support a new law on agriculture, one of four national projects spotlighted in his state of the nation address last month.
"I fully agree that we need the law," Putin said at the end of a conference on development of the agriculture sector. He said the law should be "mature, long-term and effective."
Putin also urged regions to develop agriculture independently, without waiting for instructions from the federal center.
He said regions with proactive support for agriculture boasted good results, and added that he would make recommendations to heads of regions and city mayors.
"Regions should take a proactive position," Putin said.
