LONDON, May 24 (RIA Novosti) - Senior diplomats from the six countries attempting to negotiate a solution to the crisis around Iran's controversial nuclear program gathered in London Wednesday.

Representatives of Russia, China, the United States and the EU3 (the United Kingdom, France and Germany) will focus on new ideas to end the deadlock around the problem.

The Russian Embassy in London said: "The EU3 countries are expected to present their proposals, which will be considered by other countries' representatives, and so the outcome of the consultations will be known only after the discussion."

Iran is under intense international pressure to re-impose a moratorium on its nuclear research. The U.S. and other Western nations accuse the Islamic Republic of using its nuclear program as a cover for weapons production, while Iran insists its program has only peaceful goals.

The six mediating countries have different stances on the issue. Russia and China have consistently opposed military action against Tehran, but senior officials in the U.S. have refused to rule out such an option.

The meeting was originally scheduled for May 19, and a U.K. Foreign Office spokesman said the postponement was due to the need for European negotiators to polish their proposals for Iran.

The EU had been considering offering Tehran incentives - thought to be in the form of a light-water reactor - to persuade the country to re-impose its nuclear moratorium. Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, dismissed the idea, saying that it would be like exchanging gold for "walnuts and chocolate."
