Instead of uniting eastern and western Ukraine, Tymoshenko said, it would impose an oligarchic structure of power, led by Party of Regions head Viktor Yanukovych, who lost Ukraine's disputed 2004 presidential elections following the "orange revolution".

KIEV, March 27 (RIA Novosti) - Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko Monday warned the country's main pro-presidential party against forming a coalition with the opposition Party of Regions, currently leading in the country's parliamentary elections.

"I would like to warn you that certain politicians and spin doctors are trying to impose the project of a wide coalition between Our Ukraine and the Party of Regions, allegedly to unite the country," she told a news conference.

Instead of uniting eastern and western Ukraine, she said, it would impose an oligarchic structure of power, led by Party of Regions head Viktor Yanukovych, who lost Ukraine's disputed 2004 presidential elections following the "orange revolution".

Tymoshenko said she was convinced that Ukraine should fight against oligarchic clans, otherwise the country would return to the corrupt style of government it had under ex-president Leonid Kuchma.

"I am meeting with the president tomorrow to discuss all the issues concerning the creation of this coalition. I have not spoken to the president for a long time," said Tymoshenko, a close ally of President Viktor Yushchenko until he sacked her as prime minister.

With almost half the votes counted, Ukraine's Central Election Committee said the pro-Russian Party of Regions is in the lead with 27.3% of the vote. It is followed by the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (23.4%), and the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc (16.4%). The Socialist Party and the Communist Party have gathered 7% and 3.5%, respectively.
