MOSCOW, March 11 (RIA Novosti) - The lower house of the Russian parliament will discuss migration policy at a plenary session next Wednesday, Speaker Boris Gryzlov said Saturday.
The State Duma session will be attended by Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliev and Federal Migration Service Director Konstantin Romodanovsky.
Gryzlov said streamlining the migration flow and making it transparent was a high priority.
"According to official sources, in 2005, immigration to Russia from all CIS states doubled," he said.
Gryzlov said a well thought through migration policy could help deal with the country's demographic problems.
"Last year, Russia's population declined by 735,000 people, while immigration compensated for almost 13% of our demographic losses," the speaker said.
