MOSCOW, February 23 (RIA Novosti) - Thirteen people were killed and 18 injured during he collapse of a roof at a local market in the Russian capital Thursday morning, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.
According to preliminary data, about 40 people could have been in the building at the time of the accident that occurred at the Baumansky market in the center of the capital. A total of 2,000 sq. meters of the roof have been destroyed.
The Prosecutor's Office had warned the director of the market as early as December 22 about violations in the maintenance of the building, the Moscow chief prosecutor said.
Rescue works in the building are continuing.
