TBILISI, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's interior minister met with a number of foreign ambassadors Monday to ask them for assistance in identifying the Igla anti-missile system discovered by police in the town of Kareli in the country's east early February 3.

Vano Merabishvili gave photographs and video material of the system to the French, U.S., Russian, Ukrainian and British diplomats and said he planned to meet with the Chinese and Italian ambassadors Tuesday.

Georgian secret services say they managed to prevent an attempt on the life of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, as the system, according to the country's Interior Ministry, was aimed at the president's regular flight route.

The Georgian interior minister said Friday that Russian special services would cooperate in investigating the incident.

Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Okruashvili said Georgia had no such weapons and that the system had been brought in from abroad.
