TOKYO, January 18 (RIA Novosti, Andrei Fesyun) - Japan has signaled its support for the Russian agenda of a meeting of leaders from the Group of Eight industrialized nations, the Russian finance minister said Wednesday.
Alexei Kudrin met Wednesday in Tokyo with his Japanese counterpart Sadakazu Tanigaki to coordinate the agenda of the February 10-11 ministerial meeting in Moscow, which will precede the leaders' summit in the St. Petersburg in July. Russia is presiding over the club of the world's most industrialized nations for the first time in 2006.
"The agenda is set by the consensus of all participants and it is still early to talk about it in detail," Kudrin said. "Nevertheless, Russia will touch upon three global issues at the meeting: energy security, efforts against infectious diseases and the development of educational programs."
Last week Kudrin agreed on the agenda with the German finance minister, who was on an official visit to Moscow.
Before his visit to Japan, the Russian minister held meetings in Washington with representatives from the United States, as well as from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, who will also attend the ministerial meeting. In addition, Kudrin met with his British counterpart in London.
The minister said the agenda still had to be coordinated with Italian, French and Canadian officials.
