MOSCOW, January 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar is continuing his visits to hospitalized victims of Wednesday's attack in a Moscow synagogue, the rabbi's press secretary Timur Kireyev said Thursday.

A man entered the synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya Street and stabbed eight people with a hunting knife.

Kireyev said that while attempting to restrain the assailant, Rabbi Mkhael Mishlavin was wounded in the stomach and arm. "He was operated on during the night. His condition is now stable," Kireyev said.

"Rabbi Lazar assured the victim that the Jewish community in Russia is ready to provide all necessary help for his swift recovery. Mkhael Mishlavin described certain details about yesterday's attack," he said.

Moscow Prosecutor Anatoly Zuyev said that 20-year old Muscovite Alexander Koptsev had been charged with attempted murder, causing premeditated bodily harm, and inciting racial or religious discord.

Four people were seriously injured in the attack. The victims included three foreigners - an American, an Israeli and a Tajik citizen.
