MOSCOW, January 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russian chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko said Sunday that he didn't recommend Russian tourists to visit northeastern Turkey due to an outbreak of bird flu in that country.

He said the Federal Service for the Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare, which he headed, recommended Russian airports to inspect more carefully airplanes arriving from Turkey.

The Federal Agency for Tourism earlier said it was not planning to advise Russian tourists against visiting Turkey.

The lethal bird flu virus has killed three children in the remote eastern Van region of Turkey and human bird flu cases have been reported all across the country.
