MOSCOW, December 19 (RIA Novosti)

Below is a summary of the main military-related events in Russia, the CIS and neighboring countries on December 19, 2005

* The Klimov plant in St. Petersburg is set to start test trials of a new engine for MiG-29K Fulcrum multirole fighters, which will be based on the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier when it is commissioned in the Indian navy

* The Russian government raised the amount of service pay for contract military personnel and employees of various security-related bodies by 15% starting January 1, 2006

* During a RIA Novosti news conference, Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov said the following:

- the ministry had allocated about 3 billion rubles ($104.7 million) for the military education reform plan in 2006-2010

- the ministry was not planning to introduce the post of human rights ombudsman in the Russian armed forces in the near future

- the abolishment of several military education institutions in Russia would not lead to the reduction of the overall number of cadets

* Andrei Razbash, a creative producer for the Russian TV channel Zvezda, financed by the Defense Ministry, said the channel was planning to air reality-shows on military related subjects
