* Russian electricity monopoly Unified Energy System announced it had closed a $101.4-million deal to buy a blocking stake in Silovye Mashiny, Russia's leading heavy machinery manufacturer

* Russian oil major Surgutneftegaz reported a 7.7% year-on-year increase in output in January-November 2005 to 58.3 million metric tons

* The Russian Federal Service for Financial Markets said the lifting of the "ring fence" around common shares in the Russian energy giant Gazprom would lead to the end of semi-legal "gray schemes"

* A Ukrainian parliamentary committee proposed a new raft of proposals on buying 17 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas at $50 per 1,000 cubic meters and 8 billion cu m at $80-82 per 1,000 cu m from January 1

* Russian business association Delovaya Rossiya (Business Russia) said small to medium-sized enterprises supported natural gas monopoly Gazprom's position on gas deliveries and transit via Ukraine

* The First Wholesale Generating Company (OGK-1) is set to sign a 30-year deal on guaranteed natural gas supplies with Russian-British oil joint venture TNK-BP

* Gazprombank, an investment vehicle of Russian natural gas monopoly Gazprom, said it was planning to raise its charter capital by 6.67 million shares

* The serial production of nuclear power plants (NPPs) of low and medium capacities will be started in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia's third largest city 400 km east of Moscow

* Russia and Iran have agreed to draw up a final timetable for the launch of the Bushehr nuclear power plant that will be confirmed in February 2006 when the head of the Russian Federal Nuclear Energy Agency visits Iran

* Atomstroiexport, Russia's nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly, has prepared the technical aspect of its bid for the tender to build a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Bulgaria
