VLADIKAVKAZ, December 5 (RIA Novosti, Albina Olisayeva) -Interior Minister Sergei Arenin of the Russian republic of North Ossetia in the North Caucasus asked the public council, created to ensure control over local law enforcement bodies, for aid in forming a rapid retaliation battalion Monday.

Arenin said the battalion created to prevent militant groups from infiltrating North Ossetia, whose city of Beslan suffered a devastating terrorist attack in 2004, needed 400 men.

The minister promised volunteers social benefits and premiums for every person arrested and crime solved.

The Russian Interior Ministry had allocated 100 cars for local police office chiefs, he said.

Arenin said he hoped the public council would help select volunteers.
