Below is a summary of the main security-related events in the North Caucasus on November 17, 2005

* The Supreme Court of North Ossetia announced an interval in the hearings on the case of Nurpashi Kulayev, charged with attacking a school in Beslan in September 2004, until November 22

* An election commission official in Chechnya died after he carelessly handled a handgun

* Chechen police said a policeman died when a grenade exploded in his hands in Chechnya

* Ten unknown assailants dressed in camouflage uniforms shot dead three people and wounded one in an attack outside Grozny, the capital of the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, a local police source said

* Police said a member of an illegal armed unit was detained in the city of Khasavyurt in the republic of Daghestan

* Chechen election commission chairman Ismail Baikhanov said all 430 polling stations in Chechnya had been put under guard in connection with the upcoming November 27 parliamentary elections

* A spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry of Kabardino-Balkaria said six suspects in the attack on the city of Nalchik on October 13 had been detained in different Russian regions

* Vladimir Vasilyev, the chairman of the State Duma security committee, said the authorities stood to learn a lot about terrorist planning after the investigation of the attack on Nalchik
