TBILISI, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - The Georgian Foreign Ministry released a written response Friday criticizing the Russian Foreign Ministry's October 12 statement on a resolution passed by the Georgian parliament calling for the suspension of Russia's peacekeeping mandates in the region.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry said the assessments made in the statement were unfounded, distorted reality, and were a new attempt to mislead the world community.

"It is obvious that Russia, which has assumed multilateral and bilateral obligations to settle conflicts, including within the CIS, is grossly violating international principles and norms and openly interfering in Georgia's internal affairs," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

On October 12, the Georgian parliament adopted a resolution paving the way for the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from two breakaway republics in Georgia.

On October 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it considered the Georgian parliament's newly-adopted resolution on Abkhazia and South Ossetia a provocation. It said that the resolution, which called for the suspension of Russian peacekeepers' mandates and accused them of siding with local separatists, was aimed at destroying the regulatory framework and mediation procedures designed to resolve the conflict peacefully.
