MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said he opposed granting immunity for former president Askar Akayev and picking up the tab for Akayev and his family's well being, the presidential news service said Thursday.

Speaking at a session of the Constitutional Meeting in the capital city of Bishkek, Bakiyev said articles that stipulate granting immunity for former presidents and their property, including individual and corporate housing, archives and communications, should be abolished from the constitution, along with articles that provide for the expenses of former presidents and their family members.

However, Bakiyev said some social guarantees and privileges should be preserved.

The Constitutional Meeting is a special body, headed by Bakiyev, designed to amend the Kyrgyz constitution. A presidential decree signed last week upped its number of members to 227 from 114.
