MOSCOW, September 17 (RIA Novosti) - First Russian President Boris Yeltsin who underwent surgery for a hip fracture last week, was discharged from the Kremlin hospital Saturday and went to his country residence in Barvikha, the Moscow region.

Yeltsin insisted on his discharge and doctors allowed him to leave the hospital due to his satisfactory condition, Valery Zolotov, chief physician at the Kremlin hospital, said.

He added that Yeltsin would not come back to the hospital and would have sutures removed in Barvikha Monday.

An instructor and doctor will visit Yeltsin daily to exercise him and control his condition, Zolotov said.

He also said that Yeltsin would give up crutches and walk with a cane in 7-10 days.

The first Russian president broke his hip while on vacation in Italy September 7.
